My son was born on Friday the 6th of May 2005. My parents had bought me my first digital camera, a Canon PowerShot A75, as I recall, the Christmas before in anticipation of this great event so when it finally occurred I had it in mind that I would comprehensively record his first month on the planet at the very least. Of course this is easier said than done with a new born and this is not the place I want to record the various events of the time but somehow the mission was accomplished. Unfortunately it didn’t stop there!

For reasons lost in the mists of time but probably related to trying to establish some kind of routine outside of that dictated by a baby I found myself taking, or attempting to take, photos on the 6th of every month.

At first this translated into an intent to continue this for the first year. Five years later it’s still going! Exhaustion or other events dictated that the photo shoot was a day or so late from the off but I’ve pretty much managed it on time every month since then. Where I have included a photo from a different date it is either because

  • there wasn’t one on the 6th;
  • there was only a video;
  • it includes other people who may not wish to be on public display;
  • there was no appropriate photo, or,
  • there simply wasn’t one that was good enough.

I have also occasionally excluded those photos where, in retrospect, there were traces of how he looks now. In other words this is just the stuff I like. There is a whole gallery of other stuff, including videos, which I will post in due course. The plan is to link from this initial page to sub-pages featuring each year month by month. A fairly large task!

Now, I have to find a way to stop!
