Mike Hughes

My name is Mike Hughes and I am currently 46 years of age. My name is unsurprisingly common and it’s fair to say I am the least talented of them all. There is a very good chance that you won’t have heard of me.

On the other hand there are one or two places that you might have :) .

Let’s start with Red Passion. I haven’t been there for a while now owing to my personal circumstances and the decision to re-start my online forays via this blog. However, there are traces of me still about – occasional queries from other posters as to my life status and, of course, the archives of the original Red Passion fanzine, in which I assumed a narcisstic and prominent role as the author of many a letter and the ‘Wales, Wales” column.

I am also the “Wrexham supporter” referred to in Robert Lees’ young but excellent Unreserved Seating and I created and edit the very basic blog for Mike Milligan, friend and comedian as well as something similar for ex-colleague, Sarah Farmer.

Some (a very small number indeed) of you may have seen me actually play football for the Red Passion football team at Colliers Park in the dim and distant past. A gallery of our exploits in finally winning the eight a side trophy some years ago can be seen (probably exclusively) within this site. No-one else cares! Apologies for the picture quality. I have no recall as to who took them. It wasn’t me obviously.

You’ll also find me periodically in the Naim forums and, well that’s about it really outside of work. I have tended to keep a relatively low online profile until now, although I suspect many at RP would tell you different even after more than a year of inactivity!

Work-wise you might find me in the Rightsnet discussion forums occasionally. Dig deeper and you’ll find my name, and an occasional image, pop up over at GMWRAG. Since pushing myself to enter the world of blogging I have also been working to create a more inclusive version of the latter and you can see how this currently looks since it has been officially adopted as the official site. Now I just need to persuade the rest of the membership to start contributing.

Aside from the occasional appearance in some obscure minutes you really don’t want to read and maybe the odd comment on a news item that’s been pretty much it… until now!

I’ve started this blog firstly as a means of doing something vaguely IT related having had to curtail my IT studies a few years back because of my personal circumstances.

Additionally, it’s a way of re-acquiring a love of the habit of writing; something I haven’t done for years. I think it may have worked! Initially there’s undoubtedly a process of just writing, at length, just to get the habit and relocate the sediment of many years inactivity.

My initial subject matter then is limited and undoubtedly long-winded. Hopefully, it will broaden in scope and shorten in length. We’ll see!
